About Critical Care Initiative
Our mission at Critical Care Initiative is to provide medical knowledge and education enhanced by personal insight that our authors and guests have gained through their personal and professional experiences. Through our content, we hope to inspire inquiry, constructive discussion, and positive change. Postings on this site will encompass a number of healthcare topics related to the provision of quality care, evidence-based standards of practice, professional development, the health and wellbeing of the healthcare provider, advice for new nurses, and more.
The vision for Critical Care Initiative evolved from a personal desire for professional development and the need for a creative outlet. After finishing my BSN, I found myself with more free time than usual. In an effort to use this time constructively, this website was born. While the content of this site is aimed at serving the needs of our readers, content creation acts as a form of accountability for myself. It allows me to better myself by serving as a source of motivation to independently read, write, and conduct research. I want to personally thank you for visiting Critical Care Initiative, and I look forward to the opportunity to learn, network, and grow together.
About Me
I grew up in Lewisburg, West Virginia, a small town located in the southeastern region of the state. Whether we were fishing, hiking, tossing a football, or helping our grandpa stack wood for the winter, growing up, my brother and I spent a great deal of time outdoors. The excitement of exploration combined with a creative interest fueled my passion for wildlife photography, which I still enjoy today. Other personal hobbies/interests include reading and learning about new technology and the evolving field of medicine.
I have worked in the hospital setting, in various roles, since 2013. Throughout my academic career, I worked evenings and nights as a nursing assistant. Though time management was challenging at times, this experience has been invaluable. I received a Bachelor’s in Biology from Concord University in 2013, an Associate’s degree in nursing in 2016, and, most recently, a Bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Charleston in 2018. Since obtaining my ADN I have worked in the critical care setting. I also hold national certification in critical care. Though early in my career, I have had the opportunity to see the good, the bad, and the ugly of healthcare and I hope to impart some of the wisdom I’ve gained to those who have come after me. Each day I aspire to have a positive impact on my patients, my coworkers, my unit, and, ultimately, the nursing profession. My future education and career goals include pursuing an advanced degree in nursing and business and advancing into an administrative position within healthcare.
